Maui County has reached a time of reckoning on its commitment to housing and opportunity for residents, in the aftermath of the County Council’s June 19 vote to enact Bill 88. The bill establishes two new “hotel district” zone categories and offers a re-evaluation process that applies to as many as 4,500 condos out of 6,100 now subject to a phased-in ban on continued use as transient vacation rentals (TVRs).
