Editorial: Cooperation key to landfill future

Enlarging the footprint of landfill operations on the Waianae Coast is off the table for 2026-2027, as the City Council pulled funding to buy land for an add-on next to Waimanalo Gulch Sanitary Landfill. That’s for the better. However, the city must find a way to manage its daily avalanche of waste after the current site shuts down, as it’s scheduled to in 2028 — and that means finding a solution communities island-wide can support.
