Editorial: Expand progress on homelessness

The latest Point in Time (PIT) count of homeless people and families on Oahu came to 4,539, just 52 more than in 2024, but with a higher proportion of people sheltered by city or state programs. However, the count of homeless children and their families increased by 19%. That’s mixed news: An increase in homelessness among families is cause for concern, though progress in providing rapid access to shelter is certainly welcome.
