Editorial: State must work to fill housing gap

No study is needed to see the need for better strategies to create affordable housing in Hawaii — the high incidence of homelessness throughout the islands is visible to the naked eye, and Hawaii’s outflow of young people in search of higher wages and lower mortgage payments has been well documented. But there’s more to this problem that meets the eye — and that’s where the state’s Hawaii Housing Planning Study, prepared by the Hawaii Housing Finance and Development Corporation for use by state and county housing agencies, comes in.
