Editorial: State SNAP system must be improved

We’re nearing the anniversary of the July 4, 2025, signing of the “One Big Beautiful Bill” (OBBB) — which imposed sweeping changes to social services policy, expected to wipe out nearly $187 billion in federal supports for food aid alone over the next decade, while prioritizing huge jumps in spending on the military and immigration enforcement, and entrenching tax breaks for the nation’s highest earners.
