Editorial: Tax breaks safe, now mind budget

Promises made, promises kept — so far. It brings much relief that the series of tax breaks to help Hawaii residents through 2031 are staying virtually intact, a line in the budgetary sand that must be held over the next five years, against pressures sure to come. The tax reform rollout will put more money into working-class wallets, yes, but the hit to the state’s budget remains tenuous — a dynamic situation that will require tough decisions in this and coming years to propel Hawaii forward.
