Financial pressures rise for Hawaii families with Section 8 vouchers

Federal spending on Section 8 housing vouchers more than tripled between 2003 and 2024, but rising rents have increased the financial pressures on the approximately 12,000 low-­income households in Hawaii that rely on the vouchers, according to a new study by the University of Hawaii’s Economic Research Organization.
