Governor on Pro Bowl: Relationship between state and NFL solid

Governor Neil Abercrombie made an impromptu appearance during Tuesday’s Pro Bowl press conference.

He told the crowd that the relationship between the state and the NFL is solid.

The governor faced criticism in the past for a comment he made in June 2011 where is said the Hawaii Tourism Authority should not spend any money to lure the Pro Bowl back to the Aloha Stadium after 2012.

"That happens to be if you will an easy target because it’s so stupid," said Abercrombie in June 2011.  "I mean you can’t do things like give $4 million bucks to a $9 billion football industry and not give any money to children – that’s the kind of decision we gotta make."

The governor made the comments in light of a lack of funding for early childhood education.
