Hurricane Daniel weakens

The National Weather Service says Hurricane Daniel is fizzling.

The storm has winds of 85 miles per hour and is 1,700 east southeast of Hilo.

Forecasters say Hawaii may see an increase in showers starting Friday for the Big Island, but say Daniel is not supposed to be a big rainmaker as it’s fizzling out.

Surf could also build on the east shores of the state.

Justin Cruz will have more on Hurricane Daniel tonight on the KHON2 News at 5 p.m. and 6 p.m.
