Ideta Restaurant closing after nearly 44 years of service

One customer said when his college-aged son returns home, it’s a must-visit restaurant.

But after nearly 44 years in business, Ideta’s Restaurant is set to close at the end of March.

The Kalihi restaurant serves up traditional Japanese food as well as sushi.

Regulars say they will miss the place. The owner says it’s time, and she looks forward to starting a new chapter in her life.

"It’s so sad. I didn’t think it was going to be this sad, but it is. I’ve been talking to customers and crying a lot," restaurant owner Sharon Toma said.

"It’s unfortunate because this place is a landmark. It’s a gathering place for local businesses, for a lot of local people. And it’s several generations that you are talking about," customer Dwight Yoshimura said.

The last day of business for Ideta Restaurant will be March 31.
