Kokua Line: Is newly arrived kolea male or female?

Question: Yea! We live in Queen’s Gate, Hawaii Kai, and on Wednesday I was on the lanai watering some plants, looked up, and saw our first plover on the roof! He was a bit scrawny but standing proud. We have named him Percy. It seems we spot them at this time every year — just in time for my husband’s birthday.
