Kokua Line: What’s red flag for bogus invitation?

Question: Twice last week I received emails that had invitation envelopes that had to be clicked on and opened to get the party details. One was from an administrator who I don’t know personally and thus wouldn’t send me a party invitation. The other was from someone whose name I didn’t recognize. Warn your readers not to open these envelopes — they’re phishing schemes to extract personal information. When in doubt directly contact the sender, not by replying to the suspicious email but by starting a new email. Fraud is rampant and it’s easy to fall prey to a fraudster when you’re in a hurry during the busy holiday season.
