Question: I received a letter supposedly from the IRS regarding the IRS not being able to direct-deposit my 2025 Form 1040-SR refund and am asking your assistance on whether the letter is legitimate or a scam. The following led me to question the legitimacy of the letter: I have submitted my 2025 Form 1040 tax return via TurboTax a couple weeks ago and my payment of balance due that I submitted against my bank checking account has already been processed by my bank. I have had a balance due on my 1040 submissions for tax years 2023, 2024 and 2025. The most recent instance of a refund was for tax year 2022, which was successfully deposited into my bank account by the IRS at that time — there have been no changes on my personal information, nor the bank checking account information since then.
