Letter: Don’t trade health care quality for lower costs

If we take the long view of history, I believe the main reason that health care costs have risen over the past century is that medical knowledge and technology have vastly improved, allowing the health care delivery system to offer more options and increase longevity. A secondary reason is that the rate of obesity has risen significantly, and that is correlated with a significant increase in chronic diseases.
