Letter: Due process is right enshrined in history

A reader misconstrues due process (“Is due process required for all deportations?” Star-Advertiser, July 26). The concept of due process embodied in the Fifth Amendment traces back to the Magna Carta and simply requires that government authorities follow fair and legal procedures, ensuring individuals are not arbitrarily deprived of fundamental rights. A jury trial is not mandated in every case.
