Letter: Flavored vape order has dire isle consequences

The Trump administration has ordered the FDA to allow marketing of flavored vapes (“Flavored favor,” Star-Advertiser, May 17). This decision endangers our keiki. Big Tobacco says that transferring tobacco addiction to nicotine addiction through vaping reduces harm. This weak argument collapses in the case of fruit-flavored vapes. They are, basically, a gateway to nicotine addiction for adolescents, generating a steady source clientele for Big Tobacco. Nine out of 10 youth who vape use flavored products. Fruit-flavored vaping is linked to higher rates of continuous, long-term use among teens.
