Letter: Hawaii leaders change, economy never does

It would be humorous if not so sad. Reading the article “State introduces its new chief economist” in the Aug. 15 newspaper, I see this statement attributed to state Department of Business, Economic Development and Tourism Director James Tokioka: “At DBEDT, our mission is to promote a Hawaii economy that embraces innovation and is globally competitive, dynamic and productive.” Hawaii and DBEDT have seriously failed in this stated mission.
