Letter: Hawaii residents counting on promised tax breaks

In what I believe is a classic case of bait and switch, the governor has proposed a pause of the highly praised tax relief passed in 2024 as Act 46. At the time, it was hailed as “the largest income tax cut for working families in the state’s history.” But Hawaii is being forced to cut programs due to cuts in federal spending. Instead of honoring the income tax cut, I think the Legislature will merely vote to keep rates at their current levels.
