Letter: Iran war illustrates need for renewable energy

In his July 8 letter, a writer asserts that “the backup currently provided by Oahu’s fossil fuel generators is effectively endless.” The recent closure of the Strait of Hormuz shows the folly of assuming an external source of fossil fuels is firm. Many places that relied on such shipments found that imported fossil fuel is not “effectively endless.”
