Letter: Leaders must rein in Kakaako boondoggle

Thank you to the Star-Advertiser for its very thorough explanation of why the electric grid for the Kakaako development has been a total failure by the governor, the mayor, Hawaiian Electric, the City Council, developers and the financial institutions backing all of this development (“Act quickly to fix Kakaako energy,” Our View, July 30). This is by far the worst disaster — next to the rail — that Honolulu taxpayers have had to suffer through. These powerful entities have failed. I think it’s time to bring the feds in to investigate what’s really going on. Obviously, the state and city, along with their developer partners, have failed.
