Letter: Nation must stop with excessive spending

Happy 250th birthday, America! At 250, the U.S. is old enough to know better, yet still young enough to make reckless choices and call them “freedom.” We lurch between ultra-conservative and ultra-liberal impulses, changing direction instead of moving forward.
