Letter: OHA board vote should be limited to Hawaiians

The July 18 front-page article concerning low voter turnout for Office of Hawaiian Affairs board elections missed a major point (“High blank ballot rates prompt OHA voter education,” Star-Advertiser). Like many settler colonists, I recall that voting for the OHA board was originally restricted to Native Hawaiians. Then, just as has occurred too many times when the privileged class faces things they cannot do (e.g., attend Kamehameha Schools), they sued, and OHA board voting was opened to all registered voters in Hawaii.
