Letter: Overstaying visa is civil, not criminal, offense

A recent letter about immigration laws (“What is an immigration crime, and what is not,” Star-Advertiser, Jan. 19) conveniently left out a crucial fact, stating, “Anyone who enters the U.S. without permission has broken our immigration laws, which is a criminal offense.” This is correct, but this isn’t what people around the country object to in the immigration enforcement program’s illegal, cruel, inhumane activity.
