Letter: Political meddling has infected U.S. science

The President’s Office of Management and Budget has proposed changing how Federal research grants are approved, giving that job to political appointees rather than scientists, mathematicians, and engineers. A senator vows to jail a highly respected former federal medical doctor/researcher over the origin of the virus that caused the recent pandemic, insisting on human error rather than a natural origin. Students of history have seen this before.
