Letter: Reckless hikers should pay rescue fees, fines

Enough is enough. When will our politicians finally enact a law to combat the lunacy of tourists and residents alike (“Female hiker, 30s, rescued on Kaaawa Trail,” Star-Advertiser, Aug. 18)? According to the article, three people decided to take a hike during a hurricane. One can only wonder why. Just as interesting a question is at what time did they begin this adventure? The call for assistance came in on Sunday at 7:24 p.m.
