The proposed $2 billion liquefied natural gas (LNG) project by JERA will be a missed opportunity for Hawaii to become energy independent. Ratepayers and taxpayers will pay the $2 billion without a long-term return on investment. Instead, we will purchase a long-term subscription for offshore fuel, first LNG, then for biofuel subject to market forces and supply interruptions.
