A writer recently criticized President Donald Trump for not serving in the military because of a bone spur (“Trump avoided military, now wants to lead in war,” Star-Advertiser, Sept. 12). With or without the draft, most people served because they felt they had a responsibility to the country. Those who did not wish to serve could use every excuse in the book. Not having the draft is just another excuse for not serving.
