A Big Island man was charged tonight in connection with a series of threats made against employees at the Kamehameha Schools’ Keaau Campus.
Hawaii County police say they got many calls from concerned Kamehameha Schools parents.
This is the suspect: 18-year old Jeremy Costa of Hilo.
He was arrested this morning on suspicion of terroristic threatening.
Here’s what investigators say happened: they say last night Costa posted on a social networking site that he was going to go to the school and harm the security staff.
Police say the threats included references to the Virginia Tech attack and urged readers to have their cameras ready.
The Viriginia Tech attack back in 2007 is the deadliest shooting incident by a single gunman in US history. 32 people were murdered on the campus.
Assistant Chief Henry Tavares said in a statement: "We take very seriously any potential threat to the safety of our community and children in particular. Please be assured that anyone who gives any indication of a desire to perpetrate any violence within our schools will be pursued swiftly."
Costa was charged with terroristic threatening just before seven o’clock tonight.
He’s being held at the Hilo police cellblock with bail set at $100,000.
Jeremy Costa is scheduled to be in court tomorrow.
