Market-rate condo sales free up less-expensive housing

Most island families can never afford a newly built home, but those who bought condos in the five-year-old building near Ala Moana Center called The Century opened up lower-priced housing behind them as they moved up Hawaii’s housing ladder, according to a report released Monday by the University of Hawaii Economic Research Organization.
