A Maui man is dead after he crashed his motorcycle in Kaanapali Tuesday.
According to Maui Police, 21-year-old Wayan Decosta was speeding 80-100 mph toward Napili along Honoapiilani Highway when he ran into a parked truck while trying to pass a van in the bicycle lane just after 3:30 p.m.
Police say he was weaving in and out of traffic before the crash.
Decosta was taken to Maui Memorial Medical Center in critical condition where he later died.
The highway was closed while police investigated. It has since reopened.
It is not yet known if drugs or alcohol contributed to the crash.
This is Maui County’s second deadly crash of the year.
