When they got there, he refused to come out of the house.

So police shut down a section of Kealakaa Street blocking off access to about 20 homes in the surrounding area.

The swat team and other special units were called to the scene.

"There was talk of weapons and talks of threats. That is why we responded," said Honolulu Police Department Major Alexander Ahlo.

"This is a very quiet place. And nothing happened like this since we lived here and we have been here for 30 something years," said neighbor Ester Ana.

A family of four lives in the home and neighbors say the husband was recently deployed to the Middle East.

While he has been gone, neighbors say an uncle has been staying at the house- and police say he is the one who barricaded himself in the home.
