Off the news: Accounting intrigue moves into kauhale

Criticizing the state’s homeless kauhale initiative for spotty record-keeping, and lack of detail in accounting for spending, state Auditor Les Kondo took the unusual step of sending a memo to the state Legislature and the Department of Human Services on April 20, urging “immediate attention” to “deficiencies in internal control” that create a “substantial risk of improper use of public funds.”
