Off the news: City eyes downtown park for development

The city is rolling on a proposal to grow something besides weeds in Downtown’s forlorn Kamalii Mini Park, inside the triangle formed by Pali Highway, and Fort and Beretania streets: affordable housing. Announced Monday as “the state’s first disability-forward workforce housing community,” co-developers are nonprofits Pacific Housing Assistance Corp. and Lanakila Pacific, which provides independent living assistance for seniors and people with disabilities.
