Off the news: Control of Maui stream water contested

Testifiers crowded into a state Board of Land and Natural Resources meeting on Friday to argue against agricultural landowner Mahi Pono’s continued control over East Maui stream water channeled through a plantation- era irrigation system. Maui Mayor Richard Bissen was among them — testifying that the county is seeking public control, via the East Maui Water Authority.
