Off the news: Isle employment projected to pick up

A fresh report from the state Department of Labor and Industrial Relations’ Research and Statistics Office projects Hawaii’s employment rate will increase 6.2% by 2032, but the outlook isn’t as rosy as it might appear. Yes, the statewide market is expected to swell to 712,200 jobs, up from 671,010 in 2022, but new openings are estimated to account for only 5% of growth each year. Worker churn — people changing jobs or retiring — will make up the bulk of job turnover.
