Off the news: Kamehameha sells valuable hotel land

The Royal Hawaiian Hotel takes its name from “royal” land it rises from — placed in trust by Princess Bernice Pauahi Bishop, last direct descendant of King Kamehameha, and leased from the trust. Last week, that direct connection to royal holdings ended when the trust, Kamehameha Schools, finalized sale of the land.
