Off the news: Longline fisher on hook for ahi violation

The state Board of Land and Natural Resources (BLNR) voted to fine boat owner Konane Zager $10,052 — the highest penalty allowed for trailing a hooked fishing line 3.69 nautical miles long off the Kona coast. Using a line more than one mile long is unlawful inside or outside of state ocean boundaries, and all longlining is banned within Hawaii waters.
