Off the news: Maui Council advances vacation rental bill

With a housing crisis precipitated by the devastating West Maui fires of Aug. 8, 2023, adding urgency to the effort, Maui County Council’s Housing and Land Use Committee voted 6 to 3 on Thursday to send a bill phasing out “transient vacation rental” (TVR) operations in residential zones to a full Council vote. All Council members comprise the committee, making final approval of the bill expected.
