Off the news: Police crack down on Big Isle speeders

If Big Island drivers have noticed more County of Hawaii police on the Daniel K. Inouye Highway this month, there’s a good reason. The county is responding to the five recent fatalities on that east-west connector and is demonstrating willingness to enforce traffic laws. At the start of the crackdown, June 4-7, officers pulled over 316 drivers, and issued a total of 411 citations, mostly for speeding.
