Off the news: Schatz gets dose of national spotlight

Hawaii U.S. Sen. Brian Schatz is having a moment among watchers of national politics. The CNN Sunday show “On Politics” included a full segment-length interview of Schatz, which reported his current positioning in the No. 2 spot in Democratic ranks. Should the party retake the Senate majority — still a 50-50 proposition at best — the senator is expected to become majority whip.
