Off the news: State indictments trigger federal review

Federal interest has been piqued on how Hawaii spent some of FEMA funds during the COVID-19 pandemic, now that four top current or former state officials have been indicted for bribery. The recent indictments of Lt. Gov. Sylvia Luke, Ryan Yamane, Ford Fuchigami and Leo Asuncion Jr. — along with lobbyist Tobi Solidum, who pushed through a COVID-testing operation — has raised a flag with federal officials.
