Kahakukahi Ocean Academy began providing free ocean-education programs for West Maui youth in the wake of 2023’s Lahaina fire disaster, offering Riding the Waves of Life mentorship and in-the-water learning opportunities that support coping and recovery. But hurricanes Lala and Lowell took the school’s solar panels and outrigger canoe out of commission and damaged classrooms, leaving Kahakukahi in need.
