Off the news: Unmuddy waters of candidate eligibility

There is a difference between settling a legal argument and preventing another one just like it from cropping up again. The state Supreme Court on Friday decided that City Council Chair Tommy Waters was ineligible to seek another term in 2026. That’s because he was elected to two consecutive terms but, because of a separate legal dispute, did not serve his first four-year term completely.
