States chart their own path for America’s 250th despite Trump

DENVER >> On the campaign trail in 2023, President Donald Trump promised to throw a yearlong “spectacular birthday party” for the country’s 250th. Since returning to office, he has presided over a military parade, an Ultimate Fighting Championship fight on the White House lawn and, last week, the opening of the Great American State Fair, a 16-day patriotic extravaganza on the National Mall in Washington.
