Tech View: When do subscriptions make sense — or not?

For several years now, consumers have bemoaned the ubiquity of subscription-based services. Back in the day, you bought something, it worked for a reasonable period of time, and then you bought a new one. Now that’s changed, and it seems as though everything requires a subscription. In the technology space, this includes software and hardware. Subscriptions for hardware are an extreme pain point for many, but subscriptions for software do make some sense and can improve the consumer experience.
