UH beats New Mexico State 45-34

Homecoming night was a success for the UH football team.

Hawaii hosted New Mexico State in a WAC match-up looking to get back above 500, on the season.

So much has been said in the negative sense about the Warriors special teams this year.

Here’s a "positive".

Up 7-0, John Hardy-Tuliau puts the roof on the Aggies punt attempt, picked up and taken 13-yards to the house by Kamalani Alo – 14-0 Hawaii.

After a New Mexico state score second quarter "this" happened.

Allen Sampson, off the Bryant Moniz pass, off the deflection, Sampson, stays with it and comes down with the 25-yard "did he really just do that" catch.

Moniz had a pair of TD passes, going 24-for-39, for 264-yards.

But he also flashed the "wheels", with 38-seconds left in the first half Mo takes off and scurries 17-yards to paydirt one of 2 rushing scores for the Leilehua grad.

A missed extra point left it 27-14 warriors at the intermission.

But it would wind up a comfortable win for the Warirors on homecoming.

45-34 the final.

Warriors "up" their record to 4-3, 2-1 in the WAC.

Special teams though still had some issues in the kicking game.

2 missed PAT’s and a missed field goal attempt.

Still, Hawaii is above 500 again with a road game at Idaho next on the schedule.
