More than 1500 ukulele players of all ages and skill levels are hoping to break a world record at the Waikiki Shell.
The "Go for da record" event is also a fundraiser led by the Music for Life foundation.
80 percent of the proceeds will go to the "Rainbow for Japan Kids" program, that brings those affected by the recent tsunami and earthquake to Hawaii for an educational and healing experience.
The remainder of the proceeds will be used to purchase ukuleles and other musical instruments for Hawaii schools.
To break the record, the single piece performance must be at least five minutes long.
The current record was set on Aug., 20, 2011 in Sweden with 1547 participants.
Oahu born ukulele virtuoso, Jake Shimabukuro will give a 30-minute warm-up performance prior to the world record attempt at 12:00 p.m. Saturday.
There’s a $10 fee to participate.
