Initially announced as $1.5 billion, the cost of the baseball stadium being built at the old Tropicana location on the south end of the Strip has risen to “above $2 billion.” To put that in perspective, Allegiant Stadium was $1.9 billion and the Sphere was $2.3 billion. As for the “being built” part, there’s machinery and some activity at the site, but no obvious progress. However, A’s owner John Fisher says that funding is in place and “vertical work” should be evident by the beginning of October. The team is scheduled to play full time in the new stadium in 2028.
